Can I Run A Half Marathon?
I have asked myself that plenty of times. Then about 1.5 years ago (at least I think that’s the right timing?!) my sister-in-law was coming to visit and she said that we WERE running the half in St. Pete. I was all Ok, that’s fine…
Everyone thought I was CRAZY. I had never ran 13 miles in a row before, but I was working out 4-5 times a week, so I wasn’t worried about being in shape. I went for a few walks and timed myself…
To register for a half – you have to be able to complete it within 4 hours. That’s like an 18 minute mile. Have you ever walked around for 3 hours straight before? I have a BUNCH of times, Disney, Epcot, various theme parks, down the beach – you name it. If you can walk it – you can do it. You don’t have to RUN the whole 13 miles folks.
What you do need to do is:
- Believe in yourself
- Be able to walk for at least 3-4 hours
- Train enough so that you feel comfortable when you cross that starting line
I did Jazzercise (and still do) so I was confident that I was in shape, the few weeks before my first race I did a few 6 mile walk/jogs and one 8 mile run/jog.
I ate what everyone told me to eat before starting (a banana with peanut butter and a bagel or bread for some carbs), I drank at every water station during the run (I figured if they were there, they were there for a reason), and I ate the foods and chocolate milk that was offered at the finish line.
I did it. I was so excited I nearly cried. The feeling of accomplishment that you get when you cross the line is absolutely amazing.
So, if you are sitting there thinking that you can’t do, I want you to take a moment and believe in YOURSELF. You are amazing. You can do whatever it is you put your mind to.
And when you do go to the run – you will see all the other amazing people doing it – kids, grandparents, those in wheelchairs, and so many more 🙂
Anyways! I hope you all had a fabulous week….I ate great this week and actually worked out 5 days instead of my scheduled 4, but maybe that will help me feel a bit better about the pizza I plan on having this weekend. At least it’s a thin crust 😉 Today’s run was short and quick, but the weather in Florida this morning was just too beautiful to not go out and enjoy it!
Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
